Independent national anti-doping organization RUSADA was established in January 2008 by initiative of the Federal Agency for Physical Culture and Sport in compliance with the WADA Code and the UNESCO International Convention against Doping in Sport approved at the UNESCO General Assembly in October 19, 2005 and ratified by the Russian Federation in December 26, 2006.

In May 1, 2008 national anti-doping organization RUSADA started sample collection and transportation.

On November 18, 2015, after the release of WADA’s Independent Pound Commission report, WADA Foundation Board declared RUSADA non-compliant to WADA Code. In December 2015, the functions of planning and conducting testing were transferred to UK Anti-Doping (UKAD), within the framework of the trilateral agreement between UKAD, RUSADA and WADA, and the Roadmap to RUSADA’s compliance status reinstatement was developed.

Since April 2016 WADA-recommended international experts  have been working in RUSADA, aiming to renovate the agency and establish an effective anti-doping system in the Russian Federation. To date, RUSADA has resumed its work on results management of anti-doping rules violations, on investigating cases of potential anti-doping rules violations and on implementing anti-doping educational programs. Also, WADA permitted RUSADA to plan and conduct sample collection under the supervision of UKAD.

WADA’s audit of RUSADA was conducted from 27-29 September 2017.

The key areas of RUSADA’s activities are testing planning, sample collection for doping control purposes, investigation of potential anti-doping rules violations, results management, as well as implementation of educational programs, conduction of information campaigns and promotion of the clean and healthy sport ideals
